Thank you for devoting your time in Congress to drafting bills that legalize the murder of pregnant people in order to prove how very pro-life you really are.
(via someecards)I just want this on my blog again.
“Thus far, I have concentrated on Republican tactics, rather than Republican beliefs, but the tactics themselves are important indicators of an absolutist, authoritarian mindset that is increasingly hostile to the democratic values of reason, compromise and conciliation. Rather, this mindset seeks polarizing division (Karl Rove has been very explicit that this is his principal campaign strategy), conflict and the crushing of opposition.”
I’ve seen this piece linked a lot on the political tumblrs, and I finally got around to reading it myself. It has a really good and clear analysis of the current political field in the United States today as well as a great deconstruction of how the Republican Party of today works. Definitely worth the read.
It’s the Republican Mantra: Privatize the Profits / Socialize the Losses

As usual, Republicans using/expanding the power of government to benefit themselves.
Well, yesterday the NC legislature has overridden [the Governor of NC’s] veto. The law requires women [and all people who want an abortion] to have an ultrasound, a 24-hour waiting period, and state-written counseling delivered as a speech by her doctor. Women will be required to hear about the health risks of abortion and also “abortion alternatives”. Apparently women who are seeking abortions in NC have no awareness of any other option and haven’t thought them out, amirite?
Oh and it gets even better because anyone who does not follow these new regulations can now be sued by a woman who had an abortion—or one who nearly did and changed her mind. Or her spouse/partner. Or her parent(s)/guardian(s). OR her sibling(s).
The new law will take effect in 90 days.

Just got an e-mail from Planned Parenthood:
BREAKING: NC House of Representatives
Votes to Override the Governor’s Veto of HB 854 (72 - 47).Despite the hard work of thousands of pro-choice advocates urging legislators in the NC House of Representatives to oppose this bill, today the House voted 72 - 47 to override the governor’s veto of HB 854.
If the NC Senate also votes to override the veto, this legislation will become law and establish new abortion restrictions in North Carolina, including imposing a mandatory 24 hour delay on women seeking an abortion and requiring physicians to read a state-written script to their patients. The NC Senate will vote soon. Please call your state senator right now, and urge him or her to vote against an override of the governor’s veto.
I just wrote a long-winded e-mail to my senator as to why he, as a Republican, should be against anti-abortion legislation and how tax dollars would be better spent on preventative measures against unplanned pregnancies, such as comprehensive sex education and greater access to birth control. YOU SHOULD TOO.
Contact your local senator and BEG him/her to not vote to override the governor’s veto.(x-posted on xfafafabulous.tumblr.com)

The Wisconsin legislature is finalizing a bill to close ten Department of Motor Vehicle centers located in Democratic districts within the state. The money saved will be used to extend operating hours at DMV centers in Republican districts. These cuts come on the heels of new voter ID laws that require voters to present a state-issued photo identification card at the poll booths.
Wisconsonites, this is serious business. Please make sure that you and your friends still find a way to register to vote.
Um, WHAT?
Let this be inarguable evidence that when Republicans push for voter ID laws, they are 100% talking about voter suppression. This is their end-game, not accountability, the ability to stop democrats from voting.

Dear Governor Walker: government is not supposed to be used for the personal gain of you and your friends. Also, fuck you.

- $428k cost for fake primaries in Wisconsin source
» Big money for big trickery: As you may have heard, the Republican Party in Wisconsin is facing a grim reality — recall elections are looming, and there’s a pretty decent chance the outcomes will tilt legislative power towards the Democrats. The reason, broadly speaking, is the passion and anger towards the state GOP’s efforts to strip public union rights. As such, they’re is aiming to delay the elections to hope things have time to cool off. Their plan is unorthodox: running Republicans, as Democrats, against the Democratic opposition at the primary stage, thus forcing an extra election. Extra elections come with a cost to the state, though, and this is no different. Sort of hurts the whole cash-strapped, “gotta cut back, gotta strip these union rights” narrative, huh?
